Cabin life at Seljestad – Norway

IMG_6904

Last fall we rented a cabin for a weekend at Seljestad in Norway. This is an old cabin which we have rented a couple of times before, with no internet, very few TV channels or non at all, a small kitchen without a dishwasher and bedrooms with bunk beds. To me this is cabin life and I am so happy that my kids love this too.

We arrived a Friday afternoon, and spent the evening with good food and board games.

Next day the weather was grey, but we had planned to go hiking to Gorsbolten and was hoping the weather would clear up. We drove up to the old road to the Røldal’s mountain and parked at Eskjeflota at the highest point of the road.

IMG_6773The first 800 meters up the path to Kvitenuten was steep, we turned left under the plunge and entered a pretty challenging terrain with lots of loose rocks. The last kilometer we followed the valley up to the Gorsbolt. This part was much easier and the scenery was magnificent.

Snow!

It was still grey weather, but we had an amazing view from the “bolt”. IMG_6795

The Gorsbolt seen from the old road.

We walked almost 5 km in about 2,5 hours. The terrain was difficult in some places, I usually stay on my feet, but on this hike I fell on my butt twice!!

Later we went on a short road trip to the village Røldal and visited the old Røldal stave church which was built between 1200-1250.

It was time to head back home!

On our way back home we made a stop by the beautiful Åkrafjord.
We all agreed that this was a great weekend in the mountains with no internet or TV, just beautiful nature and great company.
