Notting Hill – London

Notting Hill is one of London’s most desirable areas and it became a popular place to visit after the Notting Hill movie was released in 1999. Notting Hill is like a charming village in the city and I love the rows of colourful houses. Before we traveled to London we saw the Notting Hill movie (again!) and our first evening in the city we headed up to Notting Hill in search for the famous “bookstore”, Portobello Road Market and the blue door. The Portobello Marked was closing when we arrived, but we found the blue door and the bookstore.

Even though is was fun to follow Hugh Grant and Julia Robert’s footsteps, Notting Hill has much more to offer like great dining and shopping, and some of London’s best mews are waiting to be discovered. After some strolling around in the area we had dinner at the Electric Diner on Portobello Road. With burgundy leather booths, a dark wood bar and low-swooping lamps, the interior nods to the traditional 1950’s American diner but with a sprinkling of glamour. The Electric Diner serves classic American fare and we had the Philly chilli cheese dog. It was a wonderfully comforting space to retreat into on our first evening in London.
